About Sentosa Golf Club

Reaching back nearly four decades, in the wake of Singapore's independence, the small island at the tip of Singapore was christened "Sentosa." With this renaming, the Singapore Government's dream to create a tourist destination began and the Sentosa Golf Club's rich history started to emerge.

Envisioned by English golf architect Frank Pennick and under the guidance of prominent Singaporeans Dennis Lee, the brother of then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, and Alan Choe, Chairman of the Sentosa Development Corporation (1987-2001), Sentosa Golf Club was carved out of the lush tropical landscape. Mangrove swamps and kampongs were developed into rolling greens that became the Tanjong Course and a modest clubhouse was built.

Sentosa Golf Club was officially opened on July 14, 1974, by then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. At that time members and guests could only access the club via ferry adding to its allure as a true and distinctive destination.

Over the years golfing grew in popularity, and the club grew in prominence. A mere eight years after opening, the club added a second course, the celebrated and challenging Serapong Course, designed by Ronald Fream. Following that, in the early 1990s the original clubhouse was leveled, and a new clubhouse was built to showcase the magnificent views from the Golfer's Terrace. It also featured expanded offerings such as banqueting and meeting facilities.

With the level of play being raised again in 2005 with the inception of the prestigious Barclays Singapore Open, renovations to both The Tanjong and Serapong Courses took place in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

World-class golfers including Barclays Singapore Open winners Angel Cabrera and Adam Scott, as well as Phil Mickelson, KJ Choi, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Lee Westwood, Jeev Milkha Singh, Ian Poulter and Martin Kaymer have enjoyed the demanding golf and spectacular vistas the club offers as can our members and their guests.
